What Nurse Coaching is All About
What is a nurse coach?
A health and wellness nurse coach, or simply a nurse coach, is a practicing registered nurse who has received specialized training in holistic coaching methods. A nurse coach combines their medical knowledge, clinical experience, and passion for serving others with deep listening and motivational interviewing to help people address their doubts, fears and obstacles so that they can reignite their passions and take gradual strides towards a more fulfilling life. The act of nurse coaching is to listen to each individual’s life story and then use the information they have as nurses and the skills they have as coaches to attend to their clients as whole people and guide them to self-growth, healing and improved wellbeing.
What exactly does this mean?
This means that as a nurse coach, Holly holds a safe, welcoming, non-judgmental space for you to share your life story. She invites you to tell her what’s going well, what’s not going well and what you would like to change for the better. Your time together is a place to celebrate your accomplishments, voice your concerns, recognize your struggles and have someone help navigate you from where you are to where you want to go.

How would I benefit from these services?
Do you have a goal in mind that you’d like to accomplish but haven’t been able to achieve? Or maybe you know what you need to do but you feel unmotivated to start or get discouraged when trying to make changes. Do you have a problem and aren’t quite sure what the right solution is? Do you think you should be content in life but you feel overstressed and underappreciated? Holly can assist with all of these situations and so much more.

What can I expect from a nurse coach session?
Together, you and Holly can discuss any aspect of life. Some common topics include: medical issues and improving your physical health; sobriety/recovery, decreasing unhealthy cycles and detrimental behaviors; financial concerns, goals and setbacks; your emotional state with positive and negative aspects; grief processing and healing; your mental wellbeing and overall mindset; spiritual wellness and beliefs regarding yourself, others and the world; and your social wellness or how to improve or increase your relationships with others. As you uncover what is important to you and what is really holding you back from the life you seek, Holly will use exercises of neuroplasticity (brain retraining) to help you feel stronger, more driven and more capable of attaining your desires one step at a time. She also offers mindfulness practices, breath work and client driven activities that reinforce your virtues and increase your confidence. All recommendations, practices, discussions and “homework” are client driven or co-created with your nurse coach to aid you in becoming more peacefully present and able to embody your visions.

Do nurse coaches partner with other services?
Yes! While you and your nurse coach are collaborating your path to a more appealing life, if you would benefit from another provider due to their specialties like a medical doctor, mental health counselor, naturopath, dentist, physical/occupational therapist, massage therapist, etc, Holly will always share those thoughts with you and can support you in gathering resources.
What is the difference between nurse coaching and counseling?
The main difference between nurse coaching and counseling is that counseling tends to focus on the past and how it has affected you until now. Whereas, nurse coaching validates your past, investigates how it affects you now and offers you various ways of navigating it all so that you can successfully move forward.

Where can I receive services?
Most of Holly's sessions are done virtually via video on Google Meet which protects your privacy (HIPAA compliant) or can be done on FaceTime or Signal. Since these sessions are virtual, Holly is licensed to care for people residing in 40 of the 50 states including Washington and Oregon, as well as Guam. Unfortunately, at this time, she is NOT able to see clients who are residents of the following states and territories: Alaska, American Samoa, California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Mariana Islands, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and New York.

Why should I choose Power and Perception for my nurse coach experience?
This is a personal choice, one that is explored and honored by a 1 hour free initial session. Holly has a lot to offer her community of fellow humans, but it is totally up to you whether or not you think she is suitable for your nurse coach needs. Holly invites all of your questions and will do her best to explain answers and accommodate you wherever she can. Regardless of whom you choose to work with, there is no wrong decision and you are wished the best of luck with your personal journey to empowerment.
